Why is an AFCH different?

An adult family-care home (AFCH) provides a full-time, family-type living arrangement in a private home for up to five (5) aged or disabled people, who are not related to the owner. To qualify for an AFCH license, the AFCH provider must reside in the same house as the residents.



Who is Eligible?

A person can become a resident of an AFCH only if certain functional criteria are met, such as being able to perform the activities of daily living (with supervision or assistance) like eating, walking and toileting. A resident cannot be bedridden, cannot require 24-hour nursing supervision, cannot have stage 3 or 4 pressure sores, and must meet other criteria as described in Florida regulations.

 

What does an AFCH provide?

The AFCH provides housing, meals, personal services, health monitoring, and can provide or assist in arranging for nursing services for the resident when needed, as long as the resident's health does not require more care than can be provided. Additional services can include arrangement of transportation to medical appointments, maintenance of clothing, securing social activities and leisure services, and arrangement for participation in religious activities if requested by the resident
